Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing the right childcare or pet care is a big decision, so I have put together some answers to the questions I get asked most often.
General Questions
1.1.
What areas do you cover?
I’m based in Brighton & Hove and happily cover the surrounding areas (within roughly 20 miles). If you’re a little further out, just ask—I may still be able to help.
1.2.
How do I make a booking?
You can contact me directly through my website, by phone, or via email. Once we’ve confirmed the details, I’ll send you a booking form and agreement to secure your spot.
1.3.
How much notice do I need to give?
For planned bookings, as much notice as possible is ideal. I also specialise in emergency and last-minute childcare, so if something comes up unexpectedly, I’ll do my best to step in.
1.4.
What happens if I need to cancel my booking?
Life happens! I just ask that you give me as much notice as possible. Cancellations within 24 hours may be subject to a fee, but I’ll always try to be fair and understanding.
1.5.
What if you need to cancel—will you provide cover?
I do my very best not to cancel, but if I’m ever unwell or unable to attend, I’ll let you know as soon as possible. I may also be able to recommend another trusted professional.
1.6.
Do you work evenings, weekends, or bank holidays?
Yes, I offer flexible care including evenings, weekends, and some bank holidays. Extra charges may apply for special dates, which will always be discussed in advance. All days are subject to availability.
1.7.
Are you insured and qualified?
Absolutely. I hold full public liability insurance, a BA in Childhood Studies, an Enhanced DBS, and a 12-hour Paediatric First Aid qualification. I also have several years of professional childcare experience.
Childcare Questions
2.1.
How many children can you look after at one time?
I can care for children from up to two families at a time. This ensures that everyone gets the right attention and care.
2.2.
What ages of children do you care for?
I care for children from 6 months up to 8 years old, with experience across all age ranges.
2.3.
Do you bring activities and toys with you?
Yes! I have a box of age-appropriate crafts, activities, and resources to keep children engaged, entertained, and learning.
2.4.
Are meals and snacks included?
Parents usually provide meals and snacks. I’m more than happy to prepare and serve them, and I’ll follow any dietary requirements or routines you set.
2.5.
Can you provide care in my home, or do you offer care at your own home?
I provide care in your own home, where children feel most comfortable and routines are familiar.
2.6.
Do you drive, and can you do pick-ups/drop-offs?
Yes, I have a full driving licence and business insurance for my car. I can help with school runs, nursery pick-ups, or activities if required. I have 2 car seats in my car at all times.
2.7.
How do you handle allergies, medical needs, or medication?
I always ask parents to share full details on allergies and medical needs before care begins. I can administer prescribed medication with written consent and follow any safety procedures you require.
2.8.
Will you take the children out (to the park, groups, activities)?
Yes, with your permission. Trips to the park, library, or playgroups are a great way to keep children engaged and active. Safety is always my priority, and I’ll only take outings you’re comfortable with.
2.9.
How do you handle behaviour management?
I use a positive, gentle approach, encouraging children with praise and redirection. I’ll always follow your family’s own methods so we keep things consistent and supportive.
3.0.
Why is evening care charged at nanny rates?
Even if your child is asleep, I remain on duty — available throughout the booking, responsible for your child’s safety, and unable to take on other work. For regular families, all care (including quiet evenings) is part of our agreed nanny arrangement, and billed accordingly.
Dogcare Questions
3.1.
What breeds and sizes of dogs do you walk?
I’m happy to walk dogs of all shapes and sizes, from small pups to larger friendly breeds. For everyone’s safety and comfort, I don’t accept challenging or aggressive dogs, but I’m always here to provide loving, reliable care for well-socialised pets.
3.2.
What safety measures do you take on walks?
All dogs are kept on-lead unless you’ve given written permission and recall is reliable. I use secure harnesses or collars and avoid unsafe areas.
3.3.
Will my dog get dirty on a walk, and do you clean them afterwards?
Sometimes a muddy paw or two is unavoidable! I’ll always towel off your dog before bringing them home and keep them as clean as possible.
3.4.
Can you give my dog medication if needed?
Yes, I can administer oral medication with clear instructions from you. I don’t administer injections.
3.5.
Can you water plants or check on the house while visiting my dog?
Yes, I can do small tasks like bringing in post, watering plants, or checking doors and windows while I’m visiting.
3.6.
Do you have insurance for pets?
Yes, I have full insurance for pet care, including walking and sitting.
3.7.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Walks go ahead in most weather! If conditions are unsafe (e.g. storms, heatwaves, ice), I’ll adapt with shorter toilet walks and indoor play to keep your dog safe.
